Time is flying by in our household. It’s hard to believe my first-born baby girl is almost 16 and will be heading off to college in two years. I wanted to give my daughter something special at her “early” surprise sweet sixteen birthday party. In addition to the gifts, I decided to write some words of encouragement as a keepsake that she could hang on her wall, place on her desk, or keep close to her wherever she chooses. I printed it on pretty paper and placed it in a frame.
I read the words of encouragement at her party and presented it to her as a token of my love. She’s a special young lady and I wanted her to know that.
I want the best for her……that’s what a mother’s love is all about.
This is what it said:
There will be many life lessons, challenges and experiences as you make your mark in the world. There are a few things I want you to remember along the way.
Always place God at the head of your life and know that you can take anything to the throne. It is there that you will find the answers.
Know your worth and never settle. God wants the best for you and so do we.
Love yourself, for there is only one you. You have value and contribute something special to the world.
Recognize the value in life’s challenges because THERE WILL BE challenges. Some experiences are meant to make you stronger for the better.
Never give up. Allow your faith, determination, talents and abilities to be your best defense when times get tough.
Lead by example. That is how you inspire others.
Create a plan and prepare to go after your dreams.
Know that I love you more than words can express. I will always be here for you and will be praying for you.
Of course, after I read it, I realized there were so many other words of encouragement that I could have added. Truth be told, I could have written a novel. There will be many opportunities to share my thoughts and encouragement over time. I’ve learned that you have to take advantage of the teachable moments which can occur at any time. No need to overdo it. Plus, it was a teen party. They wanted to get on to the fun. It was a special day. We had a great time.
How do you encourage your teens?
Peace and Blessings,
