I enjoy an easy DIY project and I’m a fan of makeovers.
Recently, we painted our master bedroom. It looked like this when we moved in a couple of months ago. I was not a fan of the color or the faux finish.
We painted the master bedroom Metropolis (Valspar Reserve from Lowes) pictured in the very last photo below. I love the new gray color but realized that my lamps were too dark.
Instead of buying new lamps, I decided to paint my old lamps. I have one lamp on each of my night stands. They needed new life and what better way to do that than paint them. Paint can do amazing things.
This is the original lamp.
Designer Series all-purpose home décor paint
Metallic acrylic paint
Pearl finish acrylic paint
Polycrylic (water based) protective finish (not pictured)
Assorted paint brushes and foam brushes.
All supplies were purchased at Hobby Lobby. The total cost of this project was about $15. I already had the polycrylic protective finish. The lamp base was painted with three coats and four coats for the shade.
Two coats of polycrylic was applied for the protective finish to prevent chipping. This project was very easy and quite enjoyable. I put my music on and painted away.
Here’s the final product against the Metropolis walls in the master bedroom.
I’m still in the process of accessorizing my night stand (excuse the phone). This isn’t the best photo but I think the lamp makeover looks nice with the gray walls. Not to mention, I saved myself some money. That’s always a plus in my book.
Have you completed any easy DIY transformations lately?
