Welcome to Expressions of Gratitude. Every Wednesday for the past nine weeks, I reflect on something that I am grateful for in my life. Thinking about all of my blessings is a great practice that helps me to be a better me.
Today I am grateful that all of my life, I’ve had somewhere to call “home”. Many of us take this for granted and have never had to worry about where we lay our head at night. In some cases, we’ve had our own room, or even several rooms all to ourselves whether it be a bedroom, home office and/or a play room. This is not the case for many people who are homeless or who have fallen on hard times.
We sold our home and moved out on June 27 and have been staying in a hotel. We do not close on our new house until July 11. Let’s just say we are beyond excited, and look forward to having more space. Although, in the midst of the excitement there have been several attempts by my kids to complain because that’s just what they do at times. I stop them dead in their tracks by reminding them that this arrangement is temporary and that we are all in this together. I’m not entertaining any complaints. Only positive energy is allowed in this space. There is no room for anything else, literally.
Fortunately, there’s a lot to do in the area, so we get out and about daily. We also have great friends here in Ohio who have invited us over regularly. So as a family, we’ve had a lot of time together lately. That’s not a bad thing, but we didn’t realize how much we take space and privacy for granted.
As I reflect, the idea of home reminds me of a few lines from the song “Home” sung by Stephanie Mills in The Wiz.
When I think of home
I think of a resting place
A place where there’s peace, quiet, and serenity…..
When I think of home, I think of a place
where’s there’s love overflowing
I wish I was home, I wish I was back there
With the things I’ve been knowing…..
Our situation is just temporary, but for others its long term. Today, I pray for those who are in between homes, or homeless. My prayer is that they not only find shelter, but a home where there is peace, and serenity.
What are you grateful for today?
Have a blessed day!
Peace and Blessings,
