We are still in the midst of the moving process. It’s almost over. I’ve been a little MIA due to the transition.
We spent the weekend in our new home with borrowed blow up beds and futons thanks to a dear friend. The truck arrived with all of our belongings on Monday. No major casualties with our stuff other than a lamp and a few nicks and scratches.
I am fortunate that I did have professional help with unpacking. A group of unpackers arrived the day after all of my belongings were taken off the truck. My primary task for them was to unpack my kitchen so that I can begin to feed my children. Our eating habits need improvement after staying in a hotel for the past two weeks.
With this being my forth move, I’ve learned a few basic tips for getting organized after the truck is unloaded. After cleaning the interior and exterior of the kitchen cabinets, I labeled them. That way, the unpackers did not have to ask me questions every minute. Where does this go? Where does that go? That could drive a person crazy all day long. In some cases, I lined the interior of the cabinets and drawer. (apologize for photo quality – cell phone).
Anyway, I still have to move some things around but at least the boxes and the wrapping paper are gone. I’m a little frustrated that I can’t find some of my stuff but it’ll be fine. And….where did all of this stuff come from anyway!! Have we really accumulated this much stuff?
I am one of those people who likes order. I continuously make a mental note to keep moving forward. It will take time (relax).
Another strategy that helps is labeling the rooms. Signs were placed on the door or in the room on the wall identifying the room. Typically, I match the room names with the labels used on the boxes from my old house. That way, it makes it easier for the movers to place the boxes in the appropriate room. Nothing is more frustrating than finding boxes that should go in your garage in the master bedroom.
It would be nice if I could wake up in a few days and everything was done and completed to my satisfaction. Wishful thinking….
In the meantime, I’ll focus on being grateful. I have to give shout outs to two of my great friends who have been here with me helping out. Their support has been exceptional.
So that’s what I’ve been up to lately. I’m getting my house in order. I’ll be back with new posts when I get a bit more settled.
Peace and Blessings To You!
