My week was busy with a mix of activity. I was struggling with what to write about so I decided to highlight a few things that happened this week.
This was my last week with my personal trainer. I’ve had 12 sessions and now it’s time to go it alone. She was helping me to focus on my core, strengthening my abs, arms, and legs. It was nice having someone to guide me through my workouts with little thought on my part. I just did it. The time has come for me to step up. It’s not like I don’t know what to do, but it was nice while it lasted.
I played taxi to my kids getting them to school, choir, basketball, tumbling, piano lessons, and music theory.
My older daughter experimented with her hair (she loves trying new styles). She tried the three strand twist method and was very pleased with the results. I think it’s very cute.
My oldest has a beautiful skin tone but struggles with oily skin and is prone to mild acne. This is not unusual with teens. Having tried several products in the past, we set out to find some new products that could help her out. She’s also very committed to at home all natural remedies which includes face masks using raw honey and other natural products.
We tried two new products which seem to be working well. The first products is Skin Rescue Deep Cleansing with Red Clay purchased at Sephora.
It’s a foaming gel cleanser that removes excess oils, unclogs pores, and purifies the skin with a powerful combination of red clay, rosemary leaf oil, and botanical antioxidants. It’s great for anyone with problem-prone, combination, or oily skin or as a deep treatment cleanse for normal skin, and also removes makeup, dirt, and grime.
It is free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. It is allergy-tested, free of artificial fragrances, dermatologist-recommended, and safe for even the most sensitive skin.
The second product is BareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer for Combination Skin also purchased at Sephora. It’s an award winning product. It’s lightweight and packed with antioxidants.
I treated my kids to dinner since Dad was away on business. We enjoyed great conversation.
We had beautiful 60 degree weather on Friday. We hung out in the yard, and the kids rode bikes. It has been so sporadic lately, we never know what to expect. I’ll take sunshine, blue skies, and warm temperatures any day.
We had the pleasure of hearing the Lee University, Cleveland, TN Campus Travel Choir. They are a worship choir that travels all over the country. They performed at the Presidential Inauguration in January 2013. Our friend’s daughter is a member of the choir, and he asked us to stop by to support her while she was in the area. Of course we were happy to do so. It was certainly not a concert but a worship experience. It was awesome to see so many young people using their ministry to change lives.
I’m a fan of OWN’s Super Soul Sunday. After seeing Gary Zukac, who Oprah has interviewed on several occasions, I decided to purchase one of his books, The Heart of the Soul, Em0tional Awareness. It’s a New York Times Bestseller. I’ll let you know my thoughts after I finish reading it.
My older daughter and I attended a presentation on The Life of Frederick Douglas at our local Public Library. My younger ones attended a basketball clinic. The presentation was facilitated by Dr. Debrah Foster Greene, Professor of American History at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. I learned that he settled in New Bedford, Massachusetts after escaping from New York City. I had no idea. I was born and raised in Massachusetts. Shame on me!
My other half returned and we went on a date, dinner and a movie. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I love having a responsible teenager who can watch her younger siblings. When my kids were little, it was difficult to envision this day becoming a reality. My fifteen year old can easily hold down the fort for a few hours while we go out.
These are just a few highlights from my week. There were a lot of other things that went on including some cleaning, cooking, working (at my paid job), homework, and the list goes on. I’m not complaining, it’s just life. There is never a dull moment. I’m truly grateful for all of my blessings even the mundane stuff too.
Have a great day!
