Happy Friday! Today I am highlighting a few DIY projects that I have completed in my current home. We are moving in a month so everything will be packed up and in boxes soon.
A year and a half ago, I received a new sewing machine as a gift. Boy was I excited. I’m a novice but was determined to give it a try. My first sewing project was a pair of basic window panels with zebra print for my 11 year-old daughter’s room. It’s a small room and there is only one window (thank goodness). The fabric was about $30. I was so proud of myself. I did not use a pattern, but used standard measurements based on the window size.
I think she was excited that mom made them for her more than anything.
Sunburst mirrors were all the rage at one time. Are they still trending? I tried my hand at a sunburst mirror for my teenage daughter’s room. It was made using wood shims, assorted acrylic paint, a $5 mirror from Hobby Lobby, a 9 inch craft ring, and a lot of glue. We added the crystal stickers for pizazz. The total cost of the project was $30. Wood shims are very inexpensive and can be purchased at Lowes. The craft ring was purchased at Michael’s craft store. The project was time-consuming but worth it. She loved it.
My 10 year-old son asked for a map in his room. He’s always been fascinated by the earth and the solar system. I could never find one large enough. As I was scanning Groupon offers one day, I came across canvas only maps at a reasonable price in three different styles. After the map arrived, it sat around for about four months before I decided to do something with it. I finally found a large bulletin board made with cork at Hobby Lobby. It was the perfect size 35 X 23. I stapled the canvas map to the bulletin board and voilà. The total cost of the project was $40. I purchased some colored push pins, and he went to town placing pins on countries he would like to visit some day.
So why does this matter? It matters because I enjoy being creative. It relaxes me. We all need an outlet and deserve some relaxation. It’s important to make my house into a home with meaningful things especially since we have moved a few times in the last ten years. My kids will remember that mom made it.
Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the world.
Have a great weekend!
Peace and Blessings,
