The world is amazing. There’s so much to see and do. That’s the beauty of a diverse world, it’s filled with different races, cultures, languages and customs. Many of us have a natural curiosity to visit other places and see how other people live.

Because of that curiosity, my husband and I enjoy traveling. One of the promises that we made to one another is that we take one trip a year or at least every other year without the kids. In the beginning, I had reservations about leaving the kids. I realized that I could not let the fear of what might happen prevent me from living. As difficult as it was at first, it’s been great for our relationship.
I use the 3 Ps as my guide when I set the date for our trip…Planning, Preparation and Prayer. As long as I do those three things, I’m good. I book the trip at least 6 months in advance, and secure the dates with family.
We usually have family come stay with the kids at our house. It still takes a lot of preparation. My kids are busy with sports, piano, and other activities. I usually leave a detailed typed itinerary which includes way more info than is necessary. I can’t help it. The other thing I do is pray a lot before and during my trip. It calms me. Then off we go. Plus, they aren’t babies anymore at ages 16, 13 and 12. They know their routines.
Our last trip was this past July. It was awesome and well worth all the effort. There’s nothing like traveling with the one you love.
We took a 5 night Carnival cruise to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Grand Cayman Islands. I don’t mind cruising every other year or so but not every year. Sometimes I just prefer to be on land. All of that movement gets to me after a while.
There’s nothing like kicking back and relaxing on a cruise. It’s one of the few vacations where the only requirement is to just show up. No cooking, cleaning, running kids around, or work. The biggest decision we make is deciding what we want for dinner and what our entertainment will be for the night. You can’t beat that.

We usually set aside time to talk about our life which includes a review of the year and how things are going as individuals and as a family. Traveling together has been a blessing and we try to make the most of it. We use it as a time of reflection for us as individuals and as a family. Sounds serious, I know, but we do get off the ship and take part in some excursions on land.
It’s amazing how important tourism is in some countries.
Dunn’s River Falls – We did it!
A chapel on our walk to the falls. I did not take my camera on the falls to avoid water damage.

I didn’t take as many pictures as I usually do. We were just going with the flow.
Traveling is just a brief glimpse into the world of others but it’s a great opportunity to create memories and experience something new. If travel is not an option, there are countless ways to spend quality time together that are just as meaningful. I don’t have to tell you. I’m sure you can come up with something.
How do you spend quality time with your spouse?
Peace and Blessings,
