Kids know more than we think they do. I’m sure you would agree. It was a cold brisk morning today, 27 degrees to be exact. As I was driving my 11 year old daughter to school she says,”Mom look at the leaves”. I was already admiring them, and the lovely fall colors as they were steadily falling from the trees. I was thinking, winter is just around the corner. So I asked her, what does that symbolize to you or what does it mean to you? I’m usually not that deep at 8am in the morning. She took a few seconds to gather her thoughts and said…..
“It represents leadership. The trees are the leaders and the leaves are the followers. As they fall, they are branching out on their own, making their way.”
Ahem. I did not expect that.
I said, “wow, that is a great analogy, how creative.”
By now, we are pulling up to the school. She jumps out, I wish her a good day, and she’s off. That was a proud mama moment for me yet so simple. You learn things when you take the time to engage your children. She’s thinking, creating, and analyzing. All a part of growth and development. So she’s doing what is expected of an 11 year old, soaking in the lessons and trying to make sense of the world we live in. Have your kids surprised you lately with their wit?
Peace and Blessings!
